It is important to recognize how the foods you consume effect the environment. This research project explores the food preferences and environmental impact of Martin Luther King Jr. High School students by quantifying weekly consumption, identifying the highest carbon footprint contributor, and analyzing carbon footprint distribution among dietary choices via an online survey distributed by teachers. To platform student voices, we collaborated with our high school AP Lang staff over days of curriculum planning in which we assigned students essay prompts concerning environmentalism, activism, and charity. It is imperative we display and allow students to express their true opinions on contentious topics due to the unique perspective of our youth.
